Reseller guide

What is WHM?

Updated 2 Nov 2026 Hostsawa team

WHM or cPanel?

cPanel manages one hosting account: files, email, databases, one-click installs. It is what you hand to a customer.

WHM manages the accounts themselves. It is one level up, and it is yours. A reseller gets WHM with the powers a reseller needs; a server owner gets WHM with root behind it.

What you actually do in it

  • Create packages — the templates that define disk, bandwidth, mailboxes and databases
  • Create accounts against a package, in about twenty seconds each
  • Suspend and unsuspend, which is how you handle an unpaid invoice
  • Brand the panel with your logo and your support links
  • Set nameservers, so customers point at your name rather than ours
  • Transfer accounts in from another host, which is most of a migration
  • Watch usage, so you see a customer outgrowing their package before they complain

The jobs worth learning first

Packages before accounts

Define two or three packages and sell those. Creating every account by hand with custom limits is how resellers end up unable to remember what anyone is paying for.

The account transfer tool

WHM can pull an account straight off another cPanel server. It is the difference between a migration taking ten minutes and taking an afternoon.

Suspension, not deletion

Suspend an unpaid account. Deleting it loses the data and the customer, usually in that order.

Automating it

WHM creates accounts; it does not take payments. Once you pass about ten customers, pair it with WHMCS, which takes the order, raises the invoice, creates the cPanel account through WHM and suspends it if the invoice goes unpaid.

We sell the WHMCS licence from Ksh 980 a month, which is a fraction of buying it direct.

Frequently asked questions

Do I get WHM with a reseller plan?

Yes, with every reseller and master reseller plan.

Do I need root access?

No. A reseller’s WHM has the account-management powers without root, which is also why you are not responsible for the server.

Can I brand WHM and cPanel?

Yes — your logo, your support links and your nameservers, so the customer sees your business.

Is WHM hard to learn?

The parts a reseller uses are half a dozen screens. Set up your packages and the rest is repetition.
