How to transfer a domain

1. Unlock the domain Log into your current registrar and turn off the registrar lock (sometimes called transfer lock or theft protection).

2. Get the authorisation code Ask your registrar for the EPP code — also called the auth code or transfer key. They usually email it to the registered contact.

3. Start the transfer here Enter the domain above, pay for the transfer, and paste the EPP code at checkout.

4. Approve it The registry emails the domain’s administrative contact to confirm. Approve that email and the transfer completes.

The three steps of moving a domain to Hostsawa: unlock and get the EPP code, start the transfer, then approve the confirmation email

What to check before you start

  • The domain must be more than 60 days old and not transferred in the last 60 days — that is a registry rule, not ours
  • WHOIS privacy should be off, so the registry can reach the administrative contact
  • The admin contact email must be one you can actually read
  • The domain must not be expired or in redemption — renew it first, then transfer

Your website and email keep working throughout, as long as the DNS records stay as they are. We copy them across before the transfer completes.

What you get when you transfer

  • Your time comes with you

A paid transfer adds a year to whatever you had left.

  • Full DNS control

Add A, CNAME, MX and TXT records yourself at no extra cost.

  • No downtime

Your site and email keep working while the transfer runs.

  • We do the chasing

If the registry stalls, our team deals with it rather than you.

Domain Transfer: frequently asked questions

How long does a domain transfer take?

.ke domains are usually done within minutes once you approve the confirmation email. International extensions such as .com can take five to seven days, which is a registry rule rather than a delay at our end.

Will my website or email go down?

No. A transfer moves who manages the domain, not where it points. As long as the DNS records stay the same, nothing stops working.

Do I lose the time left on my registration?

No. A paid transfer adds a year to the time you already had. Where an extension transfers free, you keep your existing expiry date.

What is an EPP code?

The authorisation code that proves you control the domain. Your current registrar issues it, usually by email to the registered contact.

Why has my transfer been rejected?

Almost always one of four things: the domain is locked, the EPP code is wrong or expired, the domain is under 60 days old, or the confirmation email went to an address nobody reads.

Can I transfer several domains at once?

Yes. Add each one to the cart with its own EPP code, or send us the list and we will handle it.

Ready to move your domain?

Enter it above to start, or send us the list if you have several.
