Reseller guide
What is reseller hosting?
What you are buying
A reseller plan is a block of disk space, bandwidth and accounts, with WHM on top to divide it up. From WHM you create a cPanel account for each customer, give it a package — so much space, so much bandwidth, so many mailboxes — and hand them the login.
To the customer it looks like ordinary hosting bought from you. They see your brand on the panel, your nameservers in their DNS and your invoice in their inbox. They never see us.
What we do and what you do
We run the server
The hardware, the operating system, the patches, the backups of the platform and the monitoring. If the machine has a problem it is ours, around the clock.
You run the business
Who your customers are, what they pay, what each account gets, and the first line of support when one of them asks why their site is slow.
Where the line sits
Anything that turns out to be the server comes to us. Anything that is the customer’s website, their plugin or their password is yours. In practice that is the deal: you keep the relationship and we keep the uptime.
Who it suits
- Web designers and agencies already managing hosting for clients, unpaid
- Developers who want every project on a platform they chose
- Anyone starting a hosting business, before the volume justifies a server of your own
- Organisations with several sites — departments, branches, a group of related businesses
It is not for a single website. One site on a reseller plan is a more expensive way to buy shared hosting with more buttons.
What it costs
Reseller plans start at Ksh 2,200 a month, and each plan lists its disk, bandwidth and account allowance. Pick for the first year rather than the first month: moving up mid-year is possible but it is work you do not need.
The cost that catches people is not the hosting. It is billing once you pass about ten customers, and a control panel licence the day you move to your own server. Both are covered in [licenses a reseller needs](route:licenses-a-reseller-needs).
Frequently asked questions
How many customers can I host?
As many as the plan’s disk and bandwidth carry. You decide how generous each package is, so the practical limit is how you size them.
Do my customers know it is Hostsawa?
Not unless you tell them. With your own nameservers and branding, the panel and the emails carry your name.
Can I set my own prices?
Yes, entirely. You buy the plan from us and sell accounts at whatever you decide.
What happens if a customer’s site goes down?
They come to you. If it is their website you fix it or tell them what to fix; if it is the server you open a ticket and it is ours.
Can I move up later?
Yes. Upgrading a reseller plan happens on the same server and your accounts come with you.
