What a non-profit site has to do

Not much, but it has to do it reliably. A donor checking you are real, a volunteer looking for the application form, a journalist after a phone number, a funder reading last year’s report — all of them arrive from a search and leave within a minute if the site is slow or the certificate has expired.

That is a hosting problem, not a design problem. It needs a server that stays up, a certificate that renews itself and backups somebody takes without being asked.

Email is the part that matters most

A funder who gets a proposal from a Gmail address reads it differently from one that arrives from [email protected]. It is the cheapest credibility you can buy.

Every plan includes unlimited addresses on your own domain, with spam filtering and webmail, set up on phones and laptops the same day. Addresses for departments, for projects, for individual staff — there is no per-mailbox charge, so you are not rationing them.

Keeping the cost down

  • Pay yearly. It is cheaper than monthly and fits a grant cycle better
  • Take the free domain included from the second plan up
  • Use one-click WordPress rather than paying for a custom build you cannot edit
  • Start small. The entry plan hosts a normal organisational site; move up only when traffic asks

If you need help choosing, tell us what the site has to do and we will say which plan fits — including when the answer is the cheapest one.

Reports, documents and the files nobody can lose

Publishing reports

PDFs, annual reports and policy documents sit on the hosting and are indexed by search engines, so the people looking for them find them.

Sharing internally

For files staff work on together, a cloud storage box or a self-hosted Nextcloud gives you shared folders without a per-user subscription.

Keeping copies

Automatic backups are included, and you can restore from them yourself.

What non-profits get

  • Fast on LiteSpeed and NVMe

Pages render quickly and stay quick as traffic grows.

  • Free SSL on every site

Issued and renewed automatically, so the padlock never lapses.

  • Automatic backups

Taken for you, and restorable when something goes wrong.

  • Support that answers

Ticket and live chat, around the clock, from people who run the servers.

Hosting for NGOs: frequently asked questions

Can we use a .or.ke domain?

Yes. .or.ke is the Kenyan namespace for non-profits and associations, and we register it along with more than sixty other extensions. The registry asks for proof of registration for some of them, and our team handles that paperwork with you.

Do you offer anything for registered charities?

Tell us about the organisation when you order and we will see what we can do on the price. We would rather say that plainly than advertise a discount with conditions buried underneath it.

How much does hosting for NGOs cost in Kenya?

Plans start at Ksh 1,550. Every plan above shows what it includes, with prices in Kenyan shillings, and you can move up a plan at any time.

Do I get a free domain?

A free domain is included from the second plan up. You can also register one separately, or point a domain you already own at the hosting.

Can you move our existing website?

Yes. Send us the login details for your current host and our team moves the site and the email across, usually without downtime. There is no charge for it.

Is email included?

Yes — unlimited addresses on your own domain, which you can read in webmail, Outlook or your phone.

What if we do not have a website yet?

We build them. The web design service covers the site, the domain and the hosting as one job, so you are not stitching three suppliers together.
